Aug. 26. It’s back to school today for more than 140,000 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students and 19,000 staff members.
You’ll see an increase in traffic with 900 CMS buses hitting the road for the first time since June.
Students eligible for buses:
Cornelius Elementary: 398 or 71.8 percent of those enrolled.
JV Washam Elementary: 579 or 72.1 percent of those enrolled.
Bailey Middle School: 1,225 or 92.7 percent of those enrolled.
Hough High: 1,873 or 74.9 percent.of those enrolled.
Of course, not every student uses the bus service they are eligible to receive. Some parents chose to drive their children, or carpool, even though they pay for the buses via their property taxes. Also, older students in Hough HS will often drive to school themselves once they are licensed to drive.
