Nov. 9. A 97-year-old World World War II veteran will be the keynote speaker for the Veterans Day Program at the Cornelius Veterans Monument at Rotary Plaza Thursday morning next to Town Hall.
Harold Lee Frank of Davidson County is a former prisoner of war, as well as a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient.
He was held captive for 10 months in Germany.
After returning to the states, he struggled reintegrating back into society, then married, began to recover and later helped found the Cornatzer-Dulin Volunteer Fire Department.
To this day, he continues to wear the bullet which wounded him on a necklace around his neck.

The Veterans Day Program will take place at 11 am Nov. 11 at the Cornelius Veterans Monument at Rotary Plaza.
American Legion Post 86 Commander Randy Wally will lead the ceremony which includes recognition of military branches, patriotic songs by W.A. Hough High School Concert Choir, a special performance by country music artist and Army veteran, Rockie Lynne, and a 21-gun salute.
The event each year is organized by Cornelius Parks & Recreation and American Legion Post 86.
