May 28. Mecklenburg County is offering a $500 signing bonus for lifeguards in an effort to open Ramsey Creek Beach and pools throughout the county. Ramsey Creek Beach is closed for Memorial Day weekend—and for the foreseeable future—due to the nationwide shortage of lifeguards.
Only about a third of the county’s 247 lifeguard positions were filled as of mid-week. Swimming is not allowed at Jetton Park, but the beach will open at Lake Norman YMCA with limited hours.
