Francophone Film Series Presents: Our Body

7-9 pm | Nov. 19. Synopsis: French documentary titan Claire Simon observes the everyday operations of the gynecological ward in a public hospital in Paris. In the process, she questions what it means to live in a woman’s body, filming the diversity, singularity and beauty of patients in all stages of life. Through these many encounters, the specific fears, desires and struggles of these individuals become the health challenges we all face, even the filmmaker herself. Raúl Rodríguez: Anthropo-Music of Back and Forth’ Songs

7- 8:30 pm | Nov. 19. Conference/Concert set to music based on ethnographic research work on Flamenco as a social and cultural expression and its relationship with the popular music framework of the Afro-Andalusian Caribbean. Raúl Rodríguez also presents a new instrument of his own creation, the “Tres Flamenco” (a combination of a Flamenco guitar and a Cuban tres), performing some of his compositions live. Thursday, Nov. 21

Free Film Screening

6:30 pm | Nov. 21. A screening of Duality: A Collection of Afro Indigenous Perspectives, a groundbreaking film by award-winning filmmakers Kimberly M. Night (Black Indians NC) and Frederick D. Murphy (History Before Us). This thought-provoking documentary delves into the intersectionality of Indigenous and African American identities in the United States. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Cain Center for the Arts.

Exceptional Thursday

4-6 pm | Nov. 21. Designed for families, kids and adults with exceptional needs. Participants can partake in crafts, animal meet and greets with the Ranch’s animal ambassadors, music and the opportunity to make new friends. Open to all ages, the event is $8 for kids and $10 for adults and pre-registration is suggested. Rescue Ranch, 1424 Turnersburg Hwy., Statesville 28625.

Saturday, Nov. 23

9 am – noon | Nov. 23. Load up on all the foods you need for an NC feast. Davidson Farmers. Market, downtown Davidson.

The Lighting of Birkdale Village

2-7 pm | Nov. 23. Get in the holiday spirit with festive music, holiday performances and activities for the whole family. Community Thanksgiving Service

Music at St. Alban’s

3 pm | Nov. 24. Lindsay Kesselman and Allison Gagnon present “How Can I Keep from Singing?”, an afternoon of art song. Pre-concert lecture at 2 pm, sponsored by Davidson Learns. $21.40 adults, $16.30 seniors, youth and students free, but must have ticket. St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 301 Caldwell Lane, Davidson.
