Film Screening: Cine Casual and WDAV Present Los Hermanos
7:30-10 pm | Oct. 4. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Cine Casual and WDAV Classical Public Radio have partnered to present a free outdoor screening of the award-winning documentary Los Hermanos. Renowned violinist Ilmar Gavilán, one of the two classical musician brothers featured in Los Hermanos, will be a special guest joining WDAV General Manager Frank Dominguez for a pre-film Q&A and live solo performance during the pre-screening program. A native of Havana, Cuba, Gavilán is a founding member of the Grammy award-winning Harlem Quartet. The film features virtuoso Afro-Cuban-born brothers—violinist Ilmar and pianist Aldo—live on opposite sides of a geopolitical chasm a half-century wide. Tracking their parallel lives in New York and Havana, their reunion, and their first performances together, Los Hermanos/The Brothers offers a nuanced, often startling view of estranged nations through the lens of music and family. Blessing of the Animals, adoptions in Mooresville

St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church will host its annual “Blessing of the Animals” at the church’s outdoor lawn stage in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. The entire community – but especially pets – are welcome in celebrating this special day with a service that recognizes our beloved companion animals. Lake Norman Humane will be on-site with a furry friend or two available for adoption.
