Sacred Spaces Volume 2: A Small and Humble Erasure

Playwright Stephanie Gardner digs deep into Queen City history to explore a pivotal moment in which the powers that be drove marginalized theater makers toward founding a venue atop an enslaved people’s burial ground. In a sweeping, generations-spanning and playful style, Gardner’s artistic rendering begs us all to consider what is sacrificed in the ever-problematic quest for space. Soul of Broadway

7:30 pm | March 21. Terron Brooks will bring Broadway to audiences in a fresh new way as Brooks reinterprets your favorite classic and contemporary Broadway songs. A two-time NAACP Award and Ovation Award nominee, Brooks is best known for portraying Eddie Kendricks in NBC’s Emmy Award-winning mini-series The Temptations and star of Broadway’s Lion King as Simba and Hairspray as Seaweed. Tickets start at $45. Cain Center for the Arts, Catawba Avenue.

HEARTS Irish Connections ‘25: Jane’s Famous Ride

2 pm | March 22. Sharing the history of Mecklenburg County’s role in the Revolutionary War with a focus on the patriotic actions of Jane Parks McDowell and her role in the Revolutionary War. In 1780, the hope for liberty pushed this young woman with Scots-Irish roots to make a perilous ride to help the Continental Army. Free community event; must register. Puppy Pals

2 pm and 6 pm | March 22. Puppy Pals is a family fun action-packed show where adopted and rescued dogs perform spectacular stunts and breathtaking feats. Watch as we lead the puppies and audience through challenging and comical tricks as the pooches show everyone who is really boss. Tickets start at $25. Cain Center for the Arts, Catawba Avenue.

Mooresville Day 

Noon – 4 pm | March 22. Open-air artisan market featuring art and handmade items, live performances, music, activities and local food trucks and downtown eateries. Downtown Mooresville.

Arbor Day: Davidson

9 am – noon| March 22. The Town’s Arbor Day celebration encourages individuals and groups to plant and care for trees. Community tree planting and tree sapling give-a-way. TreesDavidson will host the tree planting of 54 trees. If you are interested in participating in the tree planting event, visit the Davidson Lands Conservancy website; the number of participants is limited. Fisher Farm Park along the Archery Range, 21215 Shearers Rd.
