The National Weather Service says there is a 30 percent chance of snow in Cornelius, mainly after 5 pm, with total daytime accumulation of less than half an inch.
The town is pre-treating problem areas on roads with brine. There is one truck equipped with a brine spreader. Four other trucks are available for help with town streets but little accumulation is anticipated.
The Weather Service calls for snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 4 am, then freezing rain likely between 4 am and 5am.
Businesses said they are staying open today, although banks and the Post Office are closed because of the President’s Day holiday.
