April 15. The Alexandriana Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a plaque dedication at 2 pm May 18 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Huntersville.
The plaque commemorates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. It reads:
Revolutionary War Patriots
This marker commemorates the men and women who achieved American Independence. These Patriots believing in the noble cause of Liberty fought valiantly to found a new nation.
1775-1783.
Refreshments: Prior to the ceremony, 1 pm to 2 pm.
Location: 10500 Beatties Ford Road in Huntersville.
Similar markers are going up in historic places around the country leading up the 250th Anniversary of the United States in 2026. Hopewell Presbyterian Church is one of the oldest churches in a region that became known as the Hornet’s Nest because of the patriots’ fierce opposition to the Crown. Hopewell was officially founded in 1762 although it was started in the late 1740s or early 1750s
