Drowning on Fourth of July weekend

July 2. A search continues Sunday afternoon following a drowning in Lake Norman near mile marker D5, according to the Cornelius Fire Dept. There were five or six police and fireboats boats in the waters to the north of the The Sandbar and northwest of Staghorn.

NEW: The body has been recovered but the victim’s name has not been released.

Officials are asking boaters to avoid the area because un-needed wake affects the search operation.
