Jan. 6. The Cornelius Police Dept. will be in the spotlight at tonight’s Town Board meeting, the first in 2025.

Several members of the department will be recognized for their recent promotions, while the town board will also consider the acceptance of a $100,000 anonymous donation.

The $100,000 donation to the department breaks new ground according to Town Manager Andrew Grant.

“To the best of my knowledge, the department has never received a donation of this magnitude previously. It will be used to purchase equipment that will improve public safety service to the community,” Grant said.

Several other donations will also be officially accepted at the meeting.

The police officers promoted include:

Vaughn Griffin – Captain
Jeffrey Heinz – Lieutenant
Tyler Mutarelli – Sergeant
David Ibarra – Corporal
Matthew Piwowar – Corporal
George Brinzey – Corporal

The meeting will begin at 6 pm at Cornelius Town Hall on Catawba Avenue. It will also be live streamed on the town website: www.cornelius.org. as well as the town Facebook page.
