Texas conglomerate sets anchor in Cornelius

July 21. By Dave Yochum. A Texas company that is one of the largest owners and operators of marinas in the nation has purchased the Peninsula Yacht Club for an undisclosed amount. Mecklenburg County records show the property and facilities on Harbor Light Boulevard in The Peninsula changed hands at $8 million on July 17.

The new owner is Safe Harbor Marinas, a Dallas, Texas-based marine conglomerate that owns Safe Harbor/Charleston, which can accommodate boats up to 455 feet long, as well as Newport Shipyard in Newport, RI and 25 Brewer marinas between Maryland and Massachusetts.

The seller was Charlotte-based Morningstar Marinas, a division of Morningstar Properties.

Safe Harbor also acquired Kings Point Marina in Cornelius as well as Skippers Landing Marina in Iredell County. Property records show the Kings Point real estate changed hands at $7.5 million.

The Kings Point property is assessed at $5.79 million, and the Peninsula Yacht Club is assessed at $7.13 million.

Safe Harbor now has 47,000 members in 105 marinas across 22 states.
