Sirens sound
July 13. The outdoor warning sirens around McGuire Nuclear Station will be tested between 11 am and 1 pm on Wednesday, July 13. There are no less than 67 sirens within 10 miles of the McGuire Nuclear Station—and they will sound for three minutes, some more than once.

If there were ever a real emergency at the plant, local radio and television stations would broadcast instructions. Testing is performed in cooperation with emergency officials in Mecklenburg, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Catawba counties, who are responsible for sounding the sirens.
