Siren testing today 11 am to 1 pm

July 10. The outdoor warning sirens around McGuire Nuclear Station will be tested between 11 am and 1 pm today.

The sirens will sound for five to 30 seconds. To ensure they are functioning properly, some sirens may be tested more than once.

This test is performed in cooperation with emergency officials in Mecklenburg, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Catawba counties, who are responsible for sounding the sirens.

There are 67 sirens within 10 miles of the nuclear power plant at the southern tip of Lake Norman.
