July 13. Cornelius resident Robert Carney, an 8-year resident of Cornelius, will run for the Cornelius Board of Commissioners.
The former executive director of both the Mooresville-South Iredell Economic Development Corp. and the Cabarrus County Economic Development Corp. plans to make growth management and transportation the central issues of his campaign.
“Cornelius has reached a critical moment,” Carney said. “In recent years, I have watched residents become frustrated and upset with the current growth and its impact on our quality of life. My family and I share those frustrations.”
Carney, who is currently director of client development at Dualboot Partners, said the decisions made over the next few years will dramatically impact our quality of life.
“My professional background has put me in a unique position to help guide these decisions for our town. Professionally, I have been at the forefront of guiding communities as they chose what, if any, growth and development opportunities to pursue,” he said.
Carney, a 2005 graduate of East Carolina University where he studied Marketing and Business Management, has also completed studies in strategic planning, workforce development and urban land use planning through the UNC School of Government.
He and his wife Erika live on Coachmans Wood Lane. They have two school-age children.
