Learn about how Jews viewed racial issues in the Jim Crow Era and the complicated origins of the Black-Jewish relationship.
The class is offered 7:30-8:30 pm on Thursday, Feb. 23, or Thursday, March 2, based on research from Rabbi Becca Diamond’s rabbinical thesis and will be available in-person and on Zoom. Email for information. RSVP required. Temple Kol Tikvah is at 605 South St., Davidson.

Davidson College Presbyterian Church will present a class Presbyterians, Slavery, Jim Crow and Civil Rights on Sundays during Lent.
The 2022 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) encouraged members to learn more about the relationship between Presbyterians and America’s struggle with racism, both nationally and locally.

Love Lake Norman grand opening
Love Lake Norman, a non-denominational church that moved its worship service into the Cain Center For The Arts Feb. 5, will hold a grand opening Sunday, March 5.
Lead pastor Jerel Law will begin a new series called Glad You’re Here at 10 am March 5, followed by a grand opening celebration with food, live music and activities for the kids after the service.
The Jewish Council of Lake Norman and Temple Kol Tikvah’s youth group host the annual Purim Carnival 9:30 am-noon Sunday, March 5. The theme is Harry Potter. All are welcome to celebrate Purim. Come dressed in costume and have fun making crafts, playing games like Quidditch Relay Race, Potion Making, Bounce House and more. $8 per child. Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, who was planning to have all of Persia’s Jewish subjects killed, as recounted in the Book of Esther. Yom Hashoah: Holocaust Remembrance Day
The Jewish Council of Lake Norman will present a program called Shattered Stars: Journeys Through Courage, Compassion and Kindness on Tuesday, April 18.
Irene Stern Frielich will recount her family’s ordeal as they escaped their comfortable home in Germany on Kristallnacht and crossed the border to the Netherlands.
The program will be at 7 pm Tuesday, April 18, at Temple Kol Tikvah, 605 South St., Davidson. RSVP required.
Frielich retraces her family’s footsteps from Kristallnacht in 1938 through liberation in 1945, visiting each place her father journeyed and learned of all those who helped her family along the way.
