April 17. By Dave Vieser. UPDATED. Public hearings for two landmark developments look like they will be postponed.

The hearing for the proposed QT convenience store—on the site of the Acropolis restaurant and the adjacent gas station—will be continued until May 1. NEW: Town officials expect Acropolis to close April 30. Meanwhile, discussion of economic incentives for Olde Mecklenburg Brewery will be pushed out to June.

“At this time, an agreement has not been finalized,” Cornelius Planning Director Wayne Herron said. “The Town Attorney continues to work with the applicant to provide a final agreement to the Town Board but we are recommending the public hearing be continued until June 5th to provide adequate time to finalize a draft for the Board’s consideration.”

Olde Mecklenburg has purchased the old Curtis Screw plant at the northern terminus of Zion Street. OMB is planning a $10 million facility that would include a brewery, tap room and German restaurant.  OMB owner John Marrino plans to straighten out Zion Avenue just north of the Antiquity mixed-use development and just east of North Main. The road, which runs parallel to Main Street, makes sharp left and sharp right turns on its way from Antiquity to the northern end of Zion.

Meanwhile, the proposed QT convenience store, located where Highway 21 meets Catawba Avenue, seems to be held up by the NCDOT. QT officials had a traffic impact analysis (TIA) done but the state has not yet approved that study.

“As of late Wednesday April 12, QT requested their public hearing be continued until Monday, May 1st in hopes of receiving the final NCDOT approval on the TIA,” Herron said.

With those hearings postponed, the town board is expected to go over a light agenda which includes confirmation of appointments for the Historic Preservation Committee and Planning Board, along with a budget amendment which will permit the town to complete a 911 back-up system with Pineville during the 2017 fiscal year.

The meeting begins at 7 pm at Town Hall on Catawba Avenue.
