Planning Board to take up Growth Management recommendations on Monday

March 9. By Dave Vieser. The recommendations of the Cornelius Growth Management Task Force (GMTF) will be up for consideration Monday evening March 13 at the Planning Board meeting. This will be the second time around for the Planning Board to consider their Land Use Plan modifications.

Pursuant to town regulations, they must offer a recommendation on the proposal before the Town Board can consider the suggested changes for final approval.

“Some of the Planning Board members had questions about certain aspects of the recommendations when they were first considered Feb.13,” said Deputy Town Manager Wayne Herron. “If they offer a recommendation Monday, the Town Board can then consider the entire package at their March 20 meeting. If no recommendation is forthcoming then the earliest the town commissioners could adopt the plan would be sometime in April.”

This edition of the Land Use Plan is being prepared with a shelf life of 5-7 years. With the GMTF recommendations in hand, the primary purpose is to manage growth until such time as NCDOT makes substantial progress on several road projects that will impact vehicle capacity and improve congestion. At the end of the 5-7 year period, it is anticipated the Town will revisit the Land Use Plan.
The meeting will be held at Town Hall on Catawba Avenue beginning at 6:30 pm. It will also be live streamed on the town web site: www.Cornelius.org.
