Photo of alleged shooter’s vehicle released; reward offered

Suspects vehicle entering Cornelius via West Catawba Rd. and then leaving Cornelius via West Catawba Rd.

Sept. 10. Cornelius Police have released photos and a video of the vehicle they believe was involved in a fatal shooting at around 11:23 pm on Labor Day. They also have announced a $2,000 reward for information that will help solve the death of the shooting victim, Marc Loren Mays, 45.

T​he incident happened in a dark parking lot at the Admiral’s Quarters condominium complex on West Catawba at the foot of Westmoreland.

Police described the suspects as two black males, mid to late 20s, around 5’8″ and with medium builds. The shooter was said to be wearing a dark colored hoodie and having scruffy facial hair. The driver of the vehicle may have a shaved head or close-cut hair.

The photos are believed to be the suspect vehicle near the intersection of W. Catawba Ave and Sam Furr Rd entering and exiting Cornelius. The vehicle enters Cornelius at 11:13 pm on and leaves town at approximately 11:22 pm late on Labor Day.

According to witnesses, the suspects were driving a dark green/blue colored mid-size SUV.

Witnesses describe the vehicle as having a loud exhaust sound possibly due to a mechanical issue with the vehicle. The vehicle also appears to have an inoperable center brake light.
