March 25. Passover, also known as Pesach in Hebrew, is one of the most important festivals in the Jewish calendar. lt begins the evening of Saturday March 27 and ends the evening of Sunday April 4.
It commemorates God liberating Jews from slavery in ancient Egypt and Moses leading them to their freedom as a nation. It lasts seven or eight days, depending on personal practice.
It’s predominantly a home celebration.
The festival’s English name comes from the belief that God “passed over” the Jewish homes when killing the Egyptian firstborns in the story of Exodus.
—Congregants of Chabad Lake Norman will celebrate with “whoever is in front of you,” according to Rabbi David Lipper.
—Temple Kol Tikvah in Davidson will hold services via Zoom during Passover.
