April 13. Novant and Atrium are pausing distribution of all Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines because of blood clot concerns. Anyone already scheduled to receive the shot Tuesday is being offered a Pfizer vaccine instead.
In a joint statement Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said they were investigating clots in six women that occurred within two weeks of vaccination. To read the CDC/FDA statement, click here.
More than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered, the vast majority with no or mild side effects.
Anyone who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine more than two weeks ago is not expected to experience any safety concerns.
