Sept. 19. Dr. Crystal Hill, the new superintendent of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, will be the featured speaker at a Newsmakers Breakfast Sept. 22 at The Peninsula Club.

She leads the second-largest school system in North Carolina.

Public education is a timely topic, not with a $2.5 billion bond referendum coming before voters, but as the district fields complaints that it is too large and not sufficiently responsive to North Meck needs.

Background

The Mecklenburg County Commission has approved a $2.5 billion bond package for CMS that will go before voters. The board says the money is needed to add classrooms, replace outdated schools, improve learning conditions and keep students safer in violent times.  Three North Meck schools are due for replacement.
