Dec. 21. The coronavirus has sunk another annual event, this one the New Year’s Day Barefoot Tournament at Lake Norman Marina in Sherrills Ford. The event is one of the longest running barefoot tournaments in the country. Since its inception in 1979, this will be the first year that it will not have been held.

The tournament combines barefoot starts, tricks and endurance skills with points earned for degree of difficulty and tricks as well as one point for every second they remain on their bare feet.
