June 1. The newly formed Recycling Committee in Bailey’s Glen Active Adult Community held an open house on May 25 to launch a recycling center within the clubhouse. Attendees saw educational displays and heard a “recycle rap” written and performed by Rosemary Sullivan. Door prizes consisted of garden compost.
The recycling corner will facilitate collection of items such as batteries, compact fluorescent light bulbs and eyeglasses. Volunteers will periodically take collected items to appropriate organizations.
Sullivan and nine others were inspired to form the Recycling Committee following a presentation by Environmental Supervisor Derrick A. Harris of the Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Department. Bailey’s Glen and its sister development, The Forest, will have nearly 700 homes when completely built out in a few years.
