New, new normal: More toilet paper, less spinach souffle

Bathroom tissue heaven at Harris Teeter/Old Jetton

June 4. The pandemic has sliced and diced our time in the kitchen. We’re buying dinner ready to go curbside as wells more frozen foods as we limit trips to the grocery store. Maybe that explains why there’s no Stouffer’s Spinach Souffle in Cornelius.

A Stouffer’s customer service representative said the classic is still being made and there are no known issues in production. She couldn’t explain the shortage here.

Baking and Jell-O saw a resurgence in many households, experts who watch these trends say. Frozen food is hot.

As toilet paper rests on grocery shelves a little longer now, things appear to have turned a corner to the new shopping experience of wearing face masks, staying 6 feet from anyone and higher prices.

Grocery prices rose 2.6 percent in April, the biggest increase from one month to the next since 1974, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
