Town offices closed in observance of holiday, and MLK Jr. Day celebrations

Jan. 13. Town offices are closes in Lake Norman, and some events are planned to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Cornelius

The Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., and offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 17. The Town Board meeting will be moved to Tuesday, Jan. 17, as well.

Garbage and recycling will be collected on a regular schedule the week of Jan. 16.

Town office  will re-open Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration in Cornelius will honor Nannie Potts on Jan. 15. 

Unity in Community, Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church and Davidson Presbyterian Church invite everyone to attend a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration honoring Nannie Houston Potts, the first and only Black mayor of Cornelius. Community dinner and fellowship, 1-2 pm; 2:30-4 pm program. Featuring The Strollers, food, music and speakers. Free to attend. Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church, 21517 Torrence Chapel Rd., Cornelius.

Davidson

The Town of Davidson offices, including town hall at 216 South Main St. and the Davidson Parks and Recreation Department at 865 South St., will be closed Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Town office  will re-open Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Garbage and recycling will be collected on a regular schedule the week of Jan. 16.

The town will host a Martin Luther King Day Jr. Day celebration 10 am at town hall.

Huntersville

Town offices will be closed Jan. 16 and waste collection will run on  its normal collection schedule.

“The Town supports MLK events hosted by Mecklenburg County and local community groups,” says Kim Strickland, town public information officer. ” We do not host a separate one.”

Town office  will re-open Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The department has two volunteer activities to  honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Give back to your community and help local green spaces at volunteer events:

—Jan. 14: MLK Day Trash Cleanup at Revolution Park 

—Jan. 16: National Day of Service Park & Street Cleanup at Renaissance Park
