More Boat Hosts needed, a member of the US Olympic luge team will attend the Big Day at the Lake picnic

Year 20 of Big Day at the Lake is July 20

July 12. With Year 20 of Big Day at the Lake one week from tomorrow, event organizers say 232 Bigs and Littles from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas are coming to Lake Norman for a full day of fun.

Except they are a little short on Boat Hosts, according to Dave Yochum, founder of Big Day at the Lake.

“A half-dozen more Boat Hosts are needed to accommodate all the kids and their built-in chaperones, or mentors,” he said. Each child comes with a waiver as well.

The day begins with boating, swimming and tubing on the lake from 9 am to about noon.

Starting at 1 pm there is a picnic for Bigs, Littles and Boat Hosts, with free food, raffles for Boat Hosts and a special appearance by a member of the US Olympic Luge team, Ashley Farquharson.

Special proclamation

At Monday’s Towwn Board meeting, Mayor Woody Washam will read a special proclamation on the 20th Anniversary of Big Day at the Lake.
