Propagation Essentials Workshop

1-2 pm | March 1. Hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the fundamentals of plant propagation! This class will teach you essential techniques to successfully propagate plants, allowing you to take home your very own cutting from our Williamson Conservatory. You’ll be working with Ficus elastica, commonly known as the Rubber Tree, and exploring different propagation methods. $30 per person; must register as space is limited. 5-6:30 pm | March 2. An evening with Erez Kagonovitz, Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte’s Israeli artist-in-residence and founder of the acclaimed “Humans of Tel Aviv” project. Experience Kaganovitz’s 32 compelling photographs in his exhibit “Humans of October 7th.” Listen as he shares his unique insights into the lives and experiences of those pictured bringing their powerful stories to life. Good intentions collide with malicious inertia when an upstart young councilman returns from a brief leave of absence. Missing the minutes from the previous meeting, he senses the other council members—from shy civil servants to buffoonish politicians to senile elder statesmen—are hiding something awful about what transpired. In hilarious and unsettling fashion, The Minutes shows how fictional towns like Big Cherry and real towns like Davidson wrestle with uncomfortable task of recording their own histories. $12-$25. French Film Showing – The Fast Runner (Zacharias Kunuk. 2001)

7-9 pm | March 3. Igloolik at the dawn of the first millennium, when nomadic Inuit were masters of the frozen arctic. Evil in the form of an unknown shaman divides a small community of Inuit, upsetting its balance and spirit. Twenty years pass. Two brothers emerge from the evil order: Amaqjuaq, the Strong One, and Atanarjuat, The Fast Runner. Atanarjuat wins the hand of the lovely Atuat away from the boastful son of the camp leader, Oki, who vows to get even. Oki ambushes the brothers in their sleep, killing Amaqjuaq, as Atanarjuat miraculously escapes running naked over the spring sea ice. But can he ever escape the cycle of vengeance left behind? Davidson College Symphony Orchestra: Side-by-Side with Cornelius Youth Orchestra

Davidson College Chamber Singers: Choral Compline & Meditation

7:30 pm | March 4. The Davidson College Chamber Singers invite you for a one-hour meditative compline service. Meet the Brewer

Guests are guided through a six course beer pairing dinner. 760 Craft Works head brewer Brent Myers and and a chef from Cicerone Certified Beer Servers will explain the relationship between the food and beer and answer questions. King of Queen: Queen Tribute

2 pm and 7:30 pm | March 15. The Kings of Queen are the hottest Queen tribute today. Given that he’s been dubbed as the reincarnated Freddie Mercury, frontman Emo Alaeddin is quite the spectacle.  The Kings of Queen is the only Queen tribute band to perform “Bohemian Rhapsody” with all the vocal parts performed live. Irish and American Tunes with Jon Singleton

3 pm | March 16. Charlotte’s own old-time, bluegrass, and folk music stars Jon Singleton and Jon Hill, along with surprise guests, will perform a concert of Irish American music. Rotary Lake Norman Men that Cook

11 am – 2 pm | March 16. Taste tasting from LKN men who cook.  $20 from each ticket goes to support selected charities that serve the communities of North Mecklenburg and South Iredell counties. Each eating participant will vote for their favorite food, charity or team by placing their ticket in the bucket on each team’s table. Scotti Norman, “Freedom and Family at Boyd Cabin (Buncombe County, North Carolina)”

7:30 – 9 pm | Mark 18. This talk will discuss the collaborative efforts of work at Boyd Cabin, one of the first nineteenth and twentieth-century freedman homesteads in North Carolina. Through the integration of documentary research, archaeological excavation, and oral histories from the Boyd family, this project attempts to forge new ties between archaeologists and descendant communities in the region. Preliminary excavation results indicate that the 14-person Boyd family maintained a thriving agricultural farm and built a communal space for family during a radically challenging post-emancipation, post-bellum period in Appalachia. Sacred Spaces Volume 2: A Small and Humble Erasure

Playwright Stephanie Gardner digs deep into Queen City history to explore a pivotal moment in which the powers that be drove marginalized theater makers toward founding a venue atop an enslaved people’s burial ground. In a sweeping, generations-spanning and playful style, Gardner’s artistic rendering begs us all to consider what is sacrificed in the ever-problematic quest for space. HEARTS Irish Connections ‘25: Jane’s Famous Ride

Time TBA | March 22. Sharing the history of Mecklenburg County’s role in the Revolutionary War with a focus on the patriotic actions of Jane Parks McDowell and her role in the Revolutionary War. In 1780, the hope for liberty pushed this young woman with Scots-Irish roots to make a perilous ride to help the Continental Army. Free community event; please register. Max Weinberg is most widely known as the longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and as the bandleader for Conan O’Brien on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.
