DEATON
Marvin C. Deaton, 93 of Cornelius died September 23 at his home. He was born on July 6, 1922 in Mecklenburg County to the late Duke and Emma Gurley Deaton. Marvin was the youngest male of 15 children. Marvin was in the U.S. Navy as an airplane mechanic working on the Hellcat-F6 fighter planes during WWII. He owned and operated Deaton Electric in Charlotte for 43 years. Marvin was active in his woodshop in later years and made lots of gifts. He loved the church, fishing, his beach house and most of all his family. He was loved by many and had a personality that will be sorely missed. He was a member of American Legion Post 86 and Williams Lodge 176. He was also a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by his wife Colene Deaton.
Survivors include his son Stephen Deaton of Missouri; daughters, Sheila Zeman (Tommy) of Floyd, VA, Sharon Henson (Roger) of Cornelius, Charlotte Duncan (Dave) of Hickory, Jeanne Mitravijarn of Kannapolis, Renee Shoemaker (Jeff) of Huntersville and Tammye Teague (Gerald) of Cornelius; sister, Betty Cross; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3PM Sunday, September 27 at Mt. Zion U.M.C. with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will follow in the Family Life Center. Mr. Deaton will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
