Nov. 7. Incumbent NC Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey defeated Davidson resident Natasha Marcus, a three-term North Carolina senator.
Causey had 52 percent of the vote Tuesday to Marcus’ 48 percent, giving him a third four-year term.
Marcus, a Democrat, thanked supporters who “believed in the vision we had for a North Carolina Department of Insurance that values transparency, accountability, and advocacy.”
Background
The commissioner leads the Department of Insurance and is a member of the Council of State.
The department regulates the insurance industry, handles insurance-related complaints and licenses insurance agents.
Quotable
Marcus said she is not sure what’s next.
“We came close to a win. I am proud of that work and hope it will prompt positive changes at the Department of Insurance because the people of our state deserve reliable, affordable insurance coverage,” Marcus said.
Prior to redistricting, Marcus represented Cornelius in the NC Senate.
