Lower speed limit for Bethel Church coming in April

Bethel Church Road

March 19. By Dave Vieser. As with many projects involving the NCDOT, getting the official speed limit reduced on Bethel Church Road from 45 to 35 mph has taken longer than anticipated. The good news is that the change will be in effect shortly.

The speed limit reduction was approved in Raleigh last week. New speed limit signs will be up by the second week of April, according to NCDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Goodwin.

The speed limit reduction will apply to traffic in both directions on Bethel Church from the intersection of West Catawba Avenue toward the lake.

How did the speed limit reduction happen?

The request to reduce the speed limit from the current 45 mph came from the Cornelius Town Board and stems from the fact that Bethel Church Road is almost entirely a residential street with numerous pedestrians and cyclists.
