OPINION | By Dan Morrill
Feb. 10. I have received an update from Wayne Herron. He informs me that the Town has hired a consultant who is evaluating locations to which the tenant house will be moved. The final determination has not been made. The Town will make that information public when the site is selected. The Town is consulting with Mecklenburg County, including County parks, the Historic Landmarks Commission, and the County Manager’s Office
This is terrific news! The building will be saved! I assume the Town is also considering its use or uses, but I have no information on that subject.
Everybody should be congratulated that this outcome has occurred. Cornelius Today certainly played a vital role in making the community aware of the situation.
Win Development has fulfilled its obligations under the law and has been cooperative throughout in working out a preservation solution. The State Historic Preservation Office selected Preserve Mecklenburg as the local preservation agency to work on the project. Preserve Mecklenburg has committed its full energies and expertise to implementing a preservation strategy.
There are still many things to do, but we are over the hump and headed toward a great preservation victory.
