May 24. More than 3,500 people turned out for a very cool event Saturday—the Cornelius Jazz Festival at Smithville Park. Groove Masters and 5th & York struck just the right notes for the festival which featured food, wine and beer on a perfect spring evening.

Cornelius Parks and Recreation and the Smithville CommUNITY Coalition said it was the largest crowd in the event’s eight-year history.

“It is amazing to see this event started with just a few hundred guests eight years ago to more than 3,500 this year,” said Troy Fitzsimmons, Cornelius Parks director. “Though most attendees were from Cornelius, we met folks from all over the Piedmont, from Charlotte to Conover and all points in between.”
