April 30. NCDOT says a temporary fix of the traffic light at Jetton Road and West Catawba Avenue will happen sometime between May 4 and May 18 depending on property owner issues and engineering design.
Unfortunately the signal cycle will continue to be functioning on a timed cycle, meaning delays for motorists until the permanent pole is delivered later in the year.
It’s likely the new pole will be wooden—the custom pole that was damaged will take months to replace.
No one was injured when a dump truck with its bed still up struck the light after leaving the new Chase Bank under construction at the corner of Jetton and West Catawba two weeks ago.
The construction site manager said he saw the crash occur but could not notify the driver because he did not have his phone number.
Roughly 100 feet on the Magnolia Plaza side of West Catawba have been closed to pedestrian and automobile traffic.
There’s no word exactly how much it will cost to repair, but signalized lights don’t come cheap.
A four-way intersection with lights and poles—plus design and engineering—can cost upwards of $400,000.
The Kenworth dump truck sustained $200 worth of damage.
