May 20. The Cornelius Jazz Festival is tomorrow, from 5 pm to 9 pm at Smithville Park. With performers like Groove Masters and 5th & York, it’s sure to be a cool event when the weather is hot—into the low 90s according to the National Weather Service.

No worries, Saturday also marks the official opening of Lake Norman Kiwanis Splashville Park. The splash pad will be open from 9 am to 9 pm.

Fun for kids

There will also be children’s activities, a face painter, a caricature artist, local businesses and local artists. The Blood Connection will be on site for a blood drive—all donors will receive a $10 eGift Card.

Food trucks

Food options include Bayou Betty Cajun Express, CoCo’s Cuisine LKN, Daddy K’s BBQ, Ice Cream Cereal Box, Lulu’s Hot Dog Stand, Queen Bee Treats, S&K Funnel Cakes and Tenders.

Beer, wine

Adult beverages include beer from D9 Brewing and Primal Brewery, as well as fruity local wine from Dover Vineyards.

The event is hosted by Cornelius Parks and Recreation and the Smithville CommUNITY Coalition.
