Despite partly cloudy skies and “any rain to come,” the PARC Dept. says the Cornelius Jazz Festival is on. Town officials say bring blankets and maybe rain boots for the event, which runs from 5 pm to 9 pm. Four well-known bands are tentatively on deck, including Calvin Edwards, Shableek, Bradford Ray Bailey and Shades of Brown.
More than 2,000 people attended the festival last year, which is held in the heart of the historically black Smithville community.
Monies raised will support Send-A-Kid-To-Camp at the Lake Norman YMCA. The festival is being co-sponsored by the Cornelius Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture Department and the Smithville Community Coalition.
Food trucks including A Worthy Dog, Ruthie’s of Charlotte and Taco Green-Go are on deck, as well as craft beer and wine, local artisans and children’s activities.
There will be free shuttle service beginning at 5 pm from Cornelius Elementary School. No glass containers or bottles, smoking, e-cigs, pets, tents, or open flames are allowed.
