Dec. 7.  [Update 10 am] Cornelius Police say an early morning death on Torrence Chapel Road Monday was an apparent suicide.

Police officers initially responded to a call of an injured person in the roadway; officers arrived to find a person lifeless in the roadway with a gunshot wound.

NEW TUESDAY: Preliminary results of the investigation indicate the victim died of a self-inflicted gunshot. The young man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As of 6 am Tuesday, the incident was still under investigation.

Torrence Chapel was closed between Norman Shores and Schooner Drive until about 7:45 am on Monday Dec. 6.
