April 2. Humpty Dumpty is back out in front of Cornelius Elementary School, where he sat for six years before being discovered stolen in June of 2023.
He sat atop a brick wall in an open book with the nursery rhyme engraved on the left side and a word search on the right side; that is, until the Humpty portion of the outdoor artwork was stolen.
Greensboro sculptor Eric Isbanioly won the People’s Choice Award for it back in 2017, when the town organized annual outdoor art competitions in Robbins Park.
Humpty is now welded onto the open book portion of the sculpture.
Residents Stuart Barbee and Chad Hucks organized a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, receiving donations of anywhere from $25 to $200 in short order. They raised a total of $2,650, a little more than the cost of replacing Humpty.
I sure hope they find the original Humpty & make the thieves sit on top of a book outside in all of the elements!
So glad Humpty is back. The whole town is joyous again.
