Aug. 4. By Dave Vieser. The Cornelius Planning Board will conduct a public review of a major development project known as Sefton Park on Monday Aug. 9 starting at 6:30 pm.
South Carolina-based Shaw Resources wants to build 344 apartment units, 7,800 square feet of commercial space and a hotel and conference center on 10 acres of vacant property just east of Planet Fitness.
Unkempt and stubbed in with decayed streets, the site has been an eyesore for years.
The apartments would be opposite the CATS transit station which development principals Jack Shaw and Don Shaw hope will be a natural connection for commuters into Charlotte.
An additional lot which is part of the proposal is located on the southeast corner of Sefton Park and One Norman Blvd, adjacent to the CATS Park & Ride lot.
At the initial public hearing in March, no public comments were made for or against the plan.
OMB Update
Meanwhile, the Greenway Gartens project, which includes an Olde Mecklenburg Beer brewery and beer garden, has been delayed again. It was also scheduled for an Aug. 9 Planning Board review, but Deputy Town Manager Wayne Herron says “it is simply not ready.”
