May 5. The harmonic balance of banks in Cornelius is unchanged after the opening of HomeTrust at 19520 W. Catawba and the closing of People’s Bank at 9624 Bailey Road.

That means there are still 14 banks with offices in Cornelius and, town-wide, a total of roughly $1.5 billion in deposits, but that’s as of June 30 2021.

Background

Peoples Bancorp of North Carolina moved its branch office from Cornelius to 9617 Holly Point Drive in Huntersville as of May 3, the same day HomeTrust, a regional community bank, had its ribbon-cutting, courtesy of the Lake Norman Chamber.

HomeTrust Bancshares (NASDAQ: HTBI) has regional headquarters in SouthPark.

The largest bank by market share on June 30 last year was Aquesta, with 19.62 percent. It was acquired by United Community Banks in a deal valued at $131 million.
