June 29. Following the CDC’s decision to extend the national evictions moratorium, Gov. Roy Cooper is asking the Council of State to extend the evictions moratorium order in North Carolina.
Council of State members have until 5 pm today to consider extending the state evictions
moratorium or revoke the protections extended to residential tenants. With many people still struggling to pay the rent, extending the eviction moratorium would help people stay in their homes and, ultimately, on the job.
If the ban ends July 31, renters won’t necessarily be out of house and home immediately because the courts still have to set dates for hearings—and hear the cases. Some cases may not go before a judge for weeks.
