Fierce storm swept through Cornelius, LKN, Charlotte, East Coast

Tree partially blocking Jetton

Aug. 7. Traffic lights on the eastern end of the diverging diamond are out, with a police unit on scene. Also out: Westmoreland and Hwy. 21 and Bailey Road and Hwy. 21. At 7:30 pm Duke Energy reported 121 customers without power down Jetton, 405 customers from Jetton northward toward Torrence Chapel and 34 without power along Mayes Road toward Barnhardt.

The Cornelius Fire Dept. ran 13 calls during the storm, including fire alarms and medical calls.

A tornado warning for Mecklenburg County expired around 6 pm the National Weather Service said.

A large tree fell in a front yard on Washam Potts—missing the house and the road.

Lights were out for about two hours in the live-work townhouses opposite the Cain Center, while the Food Lion and the Cain Center had lights.

A large branch was blocking the inbound lane near Jetton Road Neighborhood Park at around 7 pm. A tree fell near the tennis courts at Jetton Park.

Tonight’s weather: A 40 percent chance of more showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 pm. Some storms could be severe, with hail and damaging winds. Gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 70. West southwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. (National Weather Service)
