Eagle Scout project enhances Torrence Chapel Park

Carter Culbreth’s Eagle project at Torrence Chapel Park

Jan. 8. A Mooresville Scout has earned his Eagle award for renovating an undeveloped area near the entrance of Torrence Chapel Park in Cornelius.

Carter W. Culbreth’s project included installing five birdhouses, two bee boxes, two Adirondack chairs overlooking the baseball fields and a Little Free Library as well as planting of various plants to attract both bees and birds.

The 16-year-old’s project also involved fundraising, securing donations from various local businesses, collaborating with the Town of Cornelius Parks & Recreation Dept. and organizing fellow Scouts, leaders, family members and friends to complete it.

Carter is a member of Troop 173 which meets at Centre Presbyterian Church in Mt. Mourne. A junior at South Iredell High School, he has been a Scout since he was 9 years old. As a Scout, he has participated in the high adventure programs at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and SeaBase in Islamorada, Fla.

Carter’s parents are Mabel and Michael Culbreth. He has a sister, Cadence, 12.
