July 3. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission says the victim in a drowning accident Saturday was a 16-year-old male from Charlotte who apparently jumped off a sailboat did not resurface.

WBTV identified him as Keith Austin, a student at South Mecklenburg High. A GofundMe page has been established to help with funeral expenses.

Cornelius Police and NC Wildlife officers arrived on scene within minutes of the 911 call. Fire departments from Cornelius, Denver, Huntersville and Sherrills Ford assisted.
