MILLER-BATEEN

Dr. Heather Lynn Miller Bateen, 41, of San Francisco, CA, died June 22, 2016 as a result of an accident while riding her bike. She was born March 1, 1975 in Portsmouth, VA to Walter Peyton Miller and Ella Lynn Miller. Heather graduated from North Mecklenburg High School and UNC Asheville, where she earned her degree in Piano Performance. She received her Master’s Degree at the University of Tennessee in musicology and her Doctorate at the University of Maryland in ethnomusicology. She enjoyed running in 6K events, bicycling, and attending activities in San Francisco, especially Rugby games.

Along with her parents, Peyton and Ella Miller of Marion, NC, Heather is survived by her loving husband, Ian James Bateen of San Francisco, CA; brother, Shawn Peyton Miller of Huntersville, NC; and maternal grandfather, Paul I. Powers of Marion, NC.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 9, 2016at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville, NC. A visitation will follow the service.
