Davidson police chief addresses tragedy in Charlotte

May 1. [Letter] It is with heavy hearts that we address you today following the tragic incident that occurred in the City of Charlotte yesterday, Monday, April 29. A deeply saddening event unfolded when an armed suspect opened fire on law enforcement officers, resulting in the shooting of eight officers from both the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept. and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Out of the eight officers shot, we mourn the loss of four brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Among them, one officer from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept. and three officers from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force tragically succumbed to their injuries. Their dedication to serving and protecting our community will be forever remembered, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Close-knit relationship

The Town of Davidson Police Department partners with CMPD to share resources, services, and mutual support. There is a close-knit relationship between our agencies and officers.

This devastating event serves as a stark reminder of the risks and challenges our law enforcement officers face every day while ensuring the safety and security of our neighborhoods. I want to extend my deepest appreciation to those in the community who reached out to the officers and personnel of the Davidson Police Dept. Our community keeps us strong, and your words of support and encouragement mean everything to the men and women of our agency.

Honor their memory

Kimber “Kim” Davidson.

As we approach National Police Memorial Week during the second week of May, let us honor their memory by striving for a safer, more resilient community where peace and harmony prevail.

In the words emblazoned on the National Law Enforcement memorial, let us “Respect, Honor, Remember.”
