Dec. 18. Fearsome, a nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) stay mobile and connected to the outdoors, has teamed up with Pedego in Cornelius to help a former outdoor enthusiast and athlete reclaim the joy and independence of cycling.
Kevin Decker, the recipient of an adaptive e-bike, was derailed by MS.
“I used to ride my bike. Can’t anymore… MS has negatively impacted my balance so severely that I can’t do…things that I love outdoors,” the Huntersville resident said.
With an electric bike from Pedego, which is located in Antiquity, he can cruise greenways and engage with neighbors.
Background
Jennifer Fear, founder and president of Fearsome, has MS herself.
“This disease is tough enough and losing the ability to exercise, to get outside, it can set up a downward health trajectory. So, getting Kevin this adaptive bike is about more than just mobility; we’re restoring confidence and freedom and hopefully, changing that health trajectory for the better.”
Grace and Tom Kennedy, who own Pedego Lake Norman, said partnering with Fearsome was a no-brainer. “The most important part about every Pedego isn’t any fancy gadget or tech, it’s the person riding it,” they said.
Davidson-based Fearsome is a nonprofit focused on empowering individuals with MS to remain as mobile and independent as possible. Through partnerships and innovative mobility solutions, Fearsome helps clients avoid isolation, stay connected to nature and a wider world than they otherwise could, and pursue their potential in it.
