Dec. 9. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported more than 4,000 new COVID cases for the first time since the September delta spike. Today’s volume of new cases is 4,153—nearly double what was recorded on Monday of this week.
Positive tests
The positive test rate statewide was 7.1 percent.
Regional positivity
The local positivity rates were: Mecklenburg County, 7.9 percent; Iredell, 10.5 percent; Gaston, 13.1 percent; Lincoln, 11.9 percent; and Union, 10.1 percent,
Hospitalizations
The NCDHHS said 1,473 North Carolinians are hospitalized due to COVID, up 102 from yesterday’s total.
Deaths
The NCDHHS today also reported 22 new COVID-related deaths statewide.
Mecklenburg
There were 351 new cases reported county-wide as well as two new deaths in Mecklenburg.
North Mecklenburg (change from Wednesday)
• Cornelius: 5 new cases, 4,207 cumulative total, 32 deaths cumulative total.
• Davidson: 4 new cases, 2,459 cumulative total, 19 deaths cumulative total.
• Huntersville: 28 new cases, 9,295 cumulative total, 74 deaths cumulative total.
