March 7. New COVID cases have fallen below 1,000 a day for the first time since mid-July. Today the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services reported 528 new cases—a tiny fraction of the number of new cases reported during much of the second half of January.
The last time the new case volume was under 1,000 was July 20 when NCDHHS logged 871 new cases.
Hospitalizations
COVID-related hospitalizations continue to fall statewide, dropping to 1,140 today from 1,336 on Friday.
Deaths
The NCDHHS also reported reported 39 new deaths statewide due to the coronavirus. There were no new deaths in Mecklenburg since Friday’s report.
Testing
The statewide positivity rate fell to 3.9 percent today while the Mecklenburg 14-day trailing average fell to 5.7 percent.

There were 311 new COVID cases reported countywide.
North Mecklenburg (change from Friday)
• Cornelius: 7 new cases, 6,707 cumulative total, 35 deaths cumulative total.
• Davidson: 7 new cases, 4,063 cumulative total, 21 deaths cumulative total.
• Huntersville: 13 new cases, 15,178 cumulative total, 89 deaths cumulative total.
