Jan. 26. COVID-related hospitalizations statewide were at 5,090 in today’s coronavirus update from the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services. There were 2,387 North Carolinians hospitalized with the coronavirus on the final day of 2021. One year ago, there were 3,368 hospitalized, according to NCDHHS records.

Deaths

There were 66 new COVID deaths reported by the NCDHHS today.

New cases

There were 20,286 new cases in today’s report.

Positivity rate

The statewide positivity rate is 32.4 percent according to NCDHHS.

—In Mecklenburg, the 14-day trailing average was 32.2 percent.

Mecklenburg

There were 1,983 new COVID cases as well as 11 new deaths reported county-wide between yesterday and today.

North Mecklenburg (change from Tuesday)

• Cornelius: 50 new cases, 6,035 cumulative total, 32 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 46 new cases, 3,618 cumulative total, 20 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 110 new cases, 13,709 cumulative total, 82 deaths cumulative total.
