Jan. 11. COVID-related hospitalizations statewide rose to 3,991 today, up 67 percent since Jan. 1. Meanwhile, new daily COVID cases fell for a second day having topped 28,000 on Monday.

There were 17,705 new cases in today’s NC Dept. of Health & Human Services COVID report, down from 18,254 yesterday. On Monday there were more than 28,400 new cases.

Deaths

There were 21 new COVID deaths reported today statewide. None were in Mecklenburg.

Positivity rate

The statewide positivity rate remains just above 30 percent. In Mecklenburg, the 14-day average positivity rate climbed to 32.4 percent.

Mecklenburg

There were 1,688 new COVID cases reported county-wide between yesterday and today.

North Mecklenburg (change from Monday)

• Cornelius: 28 new cases, 5,201 cumulative total, 32 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 21 new cases, 3,032 cumulative total, 20 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 77 new cases, 11,616 cumulative total, 78 deaths cumulative total.
